Locality: United States, Texas, Kleberg, South end of Canelo Pasture, Santa Gertrudis Division of King Ranch.
Habitat: Sandy soil, brushy prairie. Branches such as this specimen are the aerial portion of the plant, and spring from large woody underground parts; these plants grow in same area as arboreal mesquite and the two types of mesquite bloom simultaneously.
Reproductive Condition: flowering=early
